About Batur Gold — Organic Fruit Farm in Bangli, Bali
Batur Gold is an organic fruit farm nestled in the fertile volcanic highlands of Bangli, Bali, just a short distance from the iconic Mount Batur. Our farm takes advantage of the rich volcanic soil, clean mountain air, and ideal tropical altitude to grow some of the world’s finest organic fruits — including the prized Ecuador Palora yellow dragon fruit (pitahaya) and premium Hass avocados.
Our Story
Batur Gold was founded with a simple vision: to bring world-class organic fruit cultivation to the highlands of Bali. The volcanic slopes surrounding Mount Batur provide an extraordinary microclimate — cool nights, warm days, mineral-rich soil, and abundant rainfall — conditions that are remarkably similar to the high-altitude growing regions of Ecuador and Central America where premium tropical fruits thrive.
We recognized that Bangli’s unique terroir, sitting at an elevation of approximately 800–1,200 meters above sea level, offered the perfect conditions to cultivate specialty fruit varieties that are typically difficult to grow elsewhere in Southeast Asia. By combining traditional Balinese farming wisdom with modern organic agricultural techniques, we have created a farm that produces fruit of exceptional quality.
Why Bangli, Bali?
Bangli regency is one of Bali’s best-kept agricultural secrets. Unlike the coastal tourist areas, Bangli sits in the island’s mountainous interior where the volcanic soil from Mount Batur has created one of the most nutrient-dense growing environments in all of Indonesia. The soil here is naturally rich in potassium, phosphorus, and trace minerals — essential nutrients that give our fruits their distinctive flavor and nutritional density.
The altitude provides cooler temperatures that slow fruit maturation, allowing sugars and nutrients to develop more fully. This is the same principle that makes highland coffee beans more prized than their lowland counterparts — and it applies equally to our dragon fruit and avocados.
Our Commitment to Organic Farming
At Batur Gold, organic is not just a label — it is a core principle. We use absolutely no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers on our farm. Instead, we rely on natural composting, volcanic mineral amendments, companion planting, and integrated pest management to maintain healthy, productive fruit trees.
Our organic approach extends beyond the absence of chemicals. We actively build soil health through cover cropping, mulching with local organic materials, and encouraging beneficial insect populations. Batur Gold specializes in two premium organic fruit varieties that are uniquely suited to our highland growing conditions:
Ecuador Palora Yellow Dragon Fruit (Pitahaya) — The famous yellow pitahaya from the Palora region of Ecuador is considered the world’s finest dragon fruit variety. Known for its bright yellow skin, translucent white flesh, and intensely sweet flavor, this variety commands premium prices in international markets. Our Bangli highland conditions closely mirror the Palora growing environment, producing fruit with the same exceptional sweetness and quality.
Hass Avocado — The Hass avocado is the world’s most popular avocado variety, prized for its creamy texture, rich nutty flavor, and excellent nutritional profile. While Hass avocados are challenging to grow in tropical lowlands, our highland location in Bangli provides the cooler temperatures and well-drained volcanic soil that Hass trees need to produce abundant, high-quality fruit.
